a little of it gets used up for photosynthesis (about 1%), while most of the rest is evaporated into the air to enable the continuous flow of water through the plant with which it can gather disulved nutrients

The main purpose of the water taken in by plants is to be '' cracked '' for the electrons needed to replace the electrons excited when photons strike the chlorophyll pigment and they are excited to a higher level and enter a photosystem. The plant '' cracks '' the water and replaces these lost electrons and the system keeps moving.

The secondary purpose, but still very important, is that plants need to keep turgid and need water pressure against the cell wall to do this. They then can maintain their upright position.

How water get into plants leaves?

Water is absorbed by plant roots and transported, by capillary action, through the fibrous material of the plant stem, to the leaves.

How are the sugars made in leaves transported in plants?

Sugar is transported through a plant by the "veins" in the plant called phloem. Xylem is the other transportation system that transports water.

How does leaf take in water to perform photosynthesis?

Water is absorbed by the roots of a plant, and is transported to leaves by means of fibrous or vascular tissues in the plant.

What water is transported from a plant's roots to its leaves in a tissue is called?

Evaporation from the leaves is called transpiration.

Why does a plant's transport of sugar differ from its transport of water?

Because sugar is transported through phloem and water is transported through xylem.

In plants what is transported from roots to leaves?

Food material prepared by the leaves is transported to the roots.

How does food and water get transfered in plants?

Water and food substances or nutrients are transported throughout the plant through the vascular bundle formed from the cambium. Xylem transports water from the roots to the leaves. The water it transports is needed by the plant in photosynthesis. After photosynthesis, sugar and other nutrients are produced and they are transported throughout the plant by the phloem. " Hope this will help.

Carry water to the leaves and carry sugar and oxygen from the leaves to the living parts of the plant that need it?

Xylem carries water from the roots to toward the leaves. Phloem carries sugar and nutrients from the leaves toward the roots. Oxygen is transported by diffusion, NOT by the liquid transport system.

What is the vasculuar tissue that transports water and minerals through a plant?

Xylem transports water up to the leaves.Water:Is absorbed from the soil through root hair cellsIs transported through the xylem vessels up the stem to the leaves.Evaporates from the leaves (transpiration)But the phloem transports nutrients to the leaves.

Why would the plant die if the phloem and xylem is removed?

It would die as water and minerals absorbed from the roots cannot be transported to other parts of the plant.Food made by the leaves cannot be transported to other parts of the plants too. So,the leaves and stems do not get the water and minerals absorbed by the roots. The roots and stems also cannot get the food made by the leaves.Hence, the plant will die eventually.

How do leaves get all the materials requires for a plant to make its own food?

The leaves have small openings to bring in CO2. They absorb sunlight and use this with the water that comes into the roots and up through the stems. The plant sugars are then transported through the sap to other parts of the plant.

How do plants transport sugar from the leaves to the rest of the plant?

glucose moves around the plant by special tubes running through the stem and to the leaves
