It depends. If you mean energy food and drinks like monster and such, then if you eat/drink too much of these then the worst case scenario is that your heart gives out or you have a heart attack. Best case scenario is that you have an incredibly large energy crash and feel drained for a while. Also, in the long term, energy drinks can cause a lot of internal problems and seriously mess up your digestive system.

You get Diabetes eventually.---------------------------------------------------------------While eating too many sugary foods can lead to diabetes, it is not always the case. When you eat too many sugary foods your body releases a hormone called insulin from your pancreas into your bloodstream. Insulin absorbs suagr from the blood to enable you to use it for energy rather than store it as fat but when you eat too much suagr you build up a resistence to insulin and it loses its power to convert sugar to energy. Eating too many sugary foods will, most often, result in weight gain, Other times it can lead to low magnesium levels (needed for blood circulation), water retention, high blood pressure and possibly even Heart disease. - Laurynm

This is my guess, so correct me if I'm wrong. The food that is consumed contains nutrients, but in order to get those nutrients chemical reactions in the enzymes and proteins must break down the food. Once this happens, the body is able to make use of the nutrients. The nutrients then provide energy in the body.
Sugar does many things for your body. Mainly, it acts to provide energy. If this energy is not used up, the excess energy is stored as fat on the body.
