No one knows yet if old GM shares will be totally worthless or not. The final proposal has not yet been approved. Until it is, hold on to yours. One proposal is that they may be exchanged for warrants. A warrant is the right to purchase a share of stock for a certain price before a certain date. Warrants may or may not have value and warrants expire. Warrants can be traded. If that proposal goes through, old GM shares may be exchanged for warrants. So far the final decision has not yet been made.
I hope to god. Those are terrible vehicles, switch to Ford at least their head isn't three feet up their ass.
Nothing other than you lose the money you invested...if you invested 10K, you lose 10K....chances are the restructuring may save them.
Certainly, this and Chyrs are unusual BKs...but in virtually all C-11 bankruptcies that is virtualy inevitable.
That's generally what happens when you make a bad investment. Stock is equity...ownership....not debt or a loan to the Company.
Ford is in little fear of going BK anyway..... The stock of ANY company that goes BK is almost always worthless...(or very close to it). Generally, any stock in the restructured Co is owned by the creditors that lost money on the originall one...part of their payment for not getting paid fully being they get the stock. Makes no fair sense the stockholders should get to not pay the debts and alos keep ownership.
Your common stock becomes worthless. The value of your shares is zero dollars.
i dont think any one will know i dont think any one will know
If GM declares bankruptcy and stops making the vehicles sold by a GM dealer, then that dealer will have to find something else to sell or go out of business. Some forms of bankruptcy do not require that the company stop operating, but merely require that they operate under the supervision of a court while they sell off assets and reorganize to better pay off their debts. In that kind of a GM bankruptcy, many GM dealers may continue to have product to sell.
For 2009 benefits are limited to those 65 years of age or older and about $54,000 annually in benefits.

Yes and no. You cannot but stock in the "New GM" (the company that just came out of bankruptcy), but you can buy stock in the company that was GM (but why would you want to?).
