A faulty intake air temperature sensor can cause a number of issues in a vehicle. Among these problems are taking longer to start on cold mornings and increased consumption of fuel.
It will cause overheating and engine may seal
the intake air temp sensor, goes in hose from air cleaner to throttle body!! disconnect electrical connector at sensor, then pull sensor from hose.
It is located in the large air tube that goes from the air filter housing to the throttle plate.
It breaks.
intake air temp sensor
Didn't have an air temp sensor in 92. Came out in 93.
The air temperature sensor in built into the Mass Air Flow sensor.
exterior air temp sensor is in L.h mirror. it pops out of a little hole in the bottom.
the intake air temp sensor for an 07 Silverado is built into the MAF sensor. The MAF is located on the air intake hose.
Raise the hood, find the air cleaner, follow it to the throttle body. Somewhere in this plumbing there will be the air temp sensor.
Your temp. sensor might be faulty, or the wiring for the gauge, but 9 out of 10 times this indicates air in the cooling system. Check the overflow tank. When there is HOT coolant on the sensor, it pops up. When air hits the sensor, it dives down.
The air temp sensor measures the temp of the incoming air. cold air carries more oxygen while hot air carries less. so according to the temp from the temp sensor the cars computer can accurately adjust the the amount of fuel to be mixed with the air into the engine. Note: there are other sensors that the computer uses to get the right air/fuel mixture.
