If it is a good amount of rain, seeds that have lain dormant for months, or even years, will quickly sprout and grow rapidly to produce flowers and new seeds that will be scattered about for the next time a rain hits. Amphibians that have been burrowed in for months will come out and look for food, a mate and a pool in which to lay their eggs.

The rain that falls in deserts is no different from rain that falls elsewhere in the world. It falls as liquid water. If it occurs during or shortly after a dust storm it may be a bit muddy, however.
