If you have a soldiers serial number how can you find out which battalion he was in during ww2?

USAYou can't. A US soldier's serial number was assigned to the soldier when he enlisted, which was before he was ever assigned to a division. And it was possible that he could transfer to a different unit. For an enslisted man, the serial number would only identify the region(or service command) of the country from where he enlisted. It also distinguished between regular army and national guard. The serial number was recorded on their dog tag or ID plate. This link below gives the information that was printed on the dog tag and the meaning of the serial number.http://home.att.net/%7Esteinert/us_army_ww2_dog_tags.htmThere are other ways to track down the soldier. Someone showed me a dogtag that was found in a barn in Italy. I asked a genealogy expert to research his family and find his enlistment records(which are available on-line). Going through the family history for the place and date of his enslistment, it was easy to track down this unusual surname. A surviving family member was found and the dogtag returned to his daughter.Read about this and see a photo of the dogtag at this link:http://www.custermen.com/Reference/MailBag.htmI agree that it's, at least, difficult to find the unit. However, if you're a family member and have the soldier's serial number, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs will be most cooperative (tho' slow) to provide all that they have of the soldier's "service record" during the war. A large part of the Army record collection was destroyed by fire at the archives, however, so best of luck in your search.German WW2The German soldier wore a dogtag that did identify the soldier's unit and an ID number.

What do you say when you retire from military services?

After serving 20 years in the military you can file or put in a retirement packet, once accepted you maintain you medical and dental benefit's, 50% of you base pay for the remainder of your life regardless of age and maintain access to any military installation. Not entirely true. There are currently (as of 2010) 3 separate retirement plans for the Military. Not all of them gives you 50% at 20 years. Also, there is NO dental coverage unless you pay for it. Lastly, medical coverage at Military Treatment Facilities is not free. You pay for Tricare Prime (currently $460.00 per year). If you have Tricare Standard it is cost shared at the rate of 80% for Tricare and 20% for you. Tricare Standard has no annual fee.

Can military order civilians in the workplace?

If within military jurisdiction; and utilizing the chain of command, yes. Example: If an E2 (Private) is placed in charge of the mess hall (today probably called a dining facility), he gives all the orders. In the United States, Governors and the President are empowered to declare martial law. Governors would generally avoid this step, however, in favor of directing their own state (National Guard) forces as military support to the civilian government, because under martial law, civilian power structures are supplanted by military structures and the military assumes control over everything.

What happens if a woman becomes pregnant while in the military?

Most of the time, she gives birth and goes on with her career. There are some limitations on specific duties a pregnant woman can be assigned to, depending on how far along the pregnancy is, and these limitations change. For example, in the 1960's, if you got pregnant, you were discharged, period. Today, most restrictions concern working in or around hazardous areas or materials, and when a woman is removed from sea duty prior to birth. Other than that, no real difference than what happens when a civilian woman gets pregnant.

Can a wife take all money earned by soldier deployed overseas and leave him broke when he comes home legally in Texas when she lives with her parents?

In Texas, community property laws typically require that both spouses have equal rights to assets accumulated during the marriage, regardless of who earned them. If a wife takes all the money earned by a soldier deployed overseas, it could potentially be considered a violation of those laws. However, specific legal advice should be sought to address the nuances of the situation.
