With the CG ahead of CP (aka CL), the downward force on the tail creates an upward pitching moment which is opposite of the downward pitching moment caused by the upward force at the CP--these are stabilizing forces. But notice what happens when the CG is behind the CP--both forces now create an upward pitching moment around the CG but there is no counterbalancing downward pitching moment created to stabilize the aircraft.

What happens to air at the center of a cyclone or center of low pressure?

What is the center of low air pressure

Why is the air pressure on top of Mount McKinley less than the air pressure at sea level?

Because air pressure (and water pressure) decrease the farther you get from the earth's center of gravity.

What are the ways in locating the center of gravity of irregularly shaped objects?

ways of locating center of gravity?

Where is the center of gravity of a basketball?

If you were observing the ball from the outside (of the ball) the center of gravity is in the middle of the basketball.

What does gravity and pressure do?

Gravity and pressure both do lots of things. In the center of a star (such as our sun, Sol) it is the gravitational force of the star's mass which holds it together as a star, rather than an expanding cloud of gas which it otherwise would be, and which also causes the high pressure that exists in the center of the star. Stars are composed of a substance known as plasma, which is a super heated gas in which all the electrons are ionized rather than being bound to atomic nuclei. It is the weight of all this plasma which presses down on the center of the star causing the extremely high pressure and temperature which allows nuclear reactions to take place. Only when atomic nuclei are under enormous pressure will they ever get close enough to undergo nuclear reactions, and that is because they are all positively charged, and therefore repel each other. So gravity and pressure, working together, make it possible for the sun and stars to shine. Without gravity and pressure the universe would be a dark, cold place.

Why center of pressure is below center of gravity?

I assume you are talking about a model rocket. Center of pressure needs to be below center of gravity in order for the rocket to fly straight. Mathematically, the rocket will tilt around the center of gravity but appear to be pushed from the center of pressure, hence the need for the center of pressure to be below the center of gravity, otherwise the rocket will just corkscrew off the pad. The fins move the center of pressure down.

What is the difference between the 'center of gravity' and the 'center of pressure'?

None

Where should the center of pressure be located in relationship to the center of gravity?

"The Center of Pressure must be behind the center of gravity to have a stable rocket." What happens to a person's balance if his center of gravity is lowered?

The lowering of the center of gravity will make it easier for the person to balance. The person will use less muscular energy to maintain his balance with that lower center of gravity.

What happens to the center of gravity of a person if he carries all his books using the right arm only?

The center of gravity of the person is shifted to the right.

Applications of center of pressure?

As the intensity of pressure increases with depth so for an inclined surface CP is bellow CG. Center of gravity : a point from which the weight of a body or system may be considered to act. In uniform gravity it is the same as the center of mass.

Do the center of mass and the center of gravity coincide?

Yes . If the center of pressure, for the vehicle as a whole, is not located behind the center of gravity (away from the direction of the flight path), then the vehicle will have unstable motion and can tumble. Adding fins to the rear of the vehicle (or increasing fin surface area) will move the center of pressure aft, affording stable flight. A similar effect can be produced by adding weight to the front of the vehicle.

When center of mass and center of gravity are equal?

For a uniform symmetric body in all directions the center of mass and center of gravity are the same point. Comment: I would say this happens when the force of gravity is the same at all points on a body. That means there are no variations in the gravitational field.

What has more pressure the center or surface of the earth?

The center, because that is where all the gravity of Earth pulls you down(this is why when you jump you come down) create lots of friction and pressure

What happens to the pressure as you travel toward the center of the earth?

pressure increases and "bunches up"
