We have no way of knowing what a pope does in the rare instances that he is alone. There would be no one present to report on his activities. If someone was present, then the pope would not be alone.
The pope answers to God alone. That is his immediate 'supervisor.'
If the pope has abdicated or resigned, a new pope is elected to fill the vacancy.
A new pope is elected by the College of Cardinals.
The cardinal electors come together in a conclave to elect a new pope.
Italy does not have its own pope. There is only one pope who happens to live in Vatican City, surrounded by the city of Rome. In 2008 Pope Benedict XVI was the pope and currently (2014) that pope is Pope Francis.

This happens any time the pope says something that is not published in an official church document.
Whatever happens in a papal conclave is secret so we will usually never find out what transpires during the election of a pope.
"They", the College of Cardinals, elected Pope Benedict XVI in a secret conclave under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. What transpires in a conclave is secret and no cardinal may reveal what happens.
We have a pope, Pope Francis, who happens to be a Jesuit. However, there is no Jesuit Pope. Some public media sources often refer to the Superior General of the Jesuits as the "Black Pope" in reference to the black worn by priests of the order and the power that has been wielded by the Jesuits in the past. However, the Catholic Church has only one true Pope who wears white and that is currently (2015) Pope Francis.
The pope makes the rules. If he decides to announce information from the conclave, he has the right to do so. Who is going to punish him?
I don't believe a pope made that prediction but, rather, St. Malachy who predicted that there will be one more pope after Pope Benedict XVI and he will go by the name of Peter the Roman. What happens after that he does not predict but some say it will signal the end of time.
