Many flights got cancelled. Palestine-Israeli talks are delayed. Political and environmental activist groups are now discussing about the volcanic eruption, effects on human beings, and effects on nature. Cults have also began, worshipping the volcano (of course, that's just silly). Some people reacted to the volcano by saying it was "divine punishment" or leading up to "Jesus' second coming in 2011" or "the end of the world in 2012."

I believe that's about it.

Volcanoes erupt in different ways. Some are quite quiet. Others are very forceful and send tons of stream, ash and rocks into the air. A Peleean volcano has the most powerful eruption. Glowing clouds of gas, steam and rock blast out of the volcano. The thick clouds drop down onto the volcano and race down its sides. These clouds are very dangerous to people and anyone caught in the flow faces almost certain death.

As magma bursts out of the top of the volcano, dust, gas, steam and hot rock shoot into the sky. Streams of magma called lava come to the surface and pour from the top of the volcano and down its sides. Sometimes the eruption is so loud it sounds like an explosion from a large bomb. Hot magma cools as it rises to the top. Some of it becomes solid on the way up. The solid pieces are blasted out in the eruption. The smaller pieces about the size of marbles are known as volcanic ash and the larger ones are called volcanic bombs. Volcanic bombs can be as big as and as heavy as trucks. The very small particles are called volcanic dust.
Volcanoes erupts when pressure below earth reaches it's critical level... Where does those pressure come? The mantel of the earth is liquid in form... Liquid because they are molten rocks and elements... they constantly move because they are liquid.... this movement forces the earth to move... if they move up they have to be released right away... since you don't expect hard rocks at the mouth of the volcano to dissolve or be molten then pressure just builds up... then here we go again... pressure builds up and if the mouth of the volcano can't take the force beneath it, they erupt... For an experiment... fill a quarter of a glass bottle, with water of course wooden cork must fit the mouth of the bottle... Use the cork to tightly clog the bottle... heat the glass bottle and watch how evaporated water push the cork off the mouth of the bottle.

Pressure from the Earth's mantle builds and pushes through a weak spot in the Earth's crust. Sometimes it explodes like Krakatoa or Mount St. Helens and sometimes it just oozes out like it does in Hawaii.

The pressure from the magma builds up within and beneath the volcano until the pressure erupts up through the crater or a side vent is blown. There can be a cloud of super heated gases that spreads out and flows rapidly downhill, instantly burning to death anyone too near. Volcanic bombs of molten lava can be thrown high and wide. Lava flows of molten rock can form streams and rivers of slower moving lava, burning and covering anything in its path. Volcanic ash is another danger, as it can thickly cover anything down wind, again causing suffocation, as happened at the Roman city of Pompei.
