Depends on how long they have been on the ventilator. After a couple of months would be reasonable
A ventilator is turned off after death not a defibrillator.
A patient is weaned off a ventilator so they are able to breathe on their own again. Weaning is the process of shifting breathing function from a machine to the person breathing on their own.
well i was inintensive care and on a ventilator not that long ago. my parents and family were by my bedside most of them time i was sedated as i was fighting against the ventilator 'breathing out when the ventilator was breathing in' i could still hear my family talking and the doctors saying what they were doing to me which upset me as they were giving my injections and i couldn't respond as i had the breathing tube in my mouth and i was heavily sedated which paralysed my muscles so i couldn't move. after a few days i got weaned off the ventilator but found it hard to breathe so i got put back on it and i finally got taken off it on the next day but i still had to be on it at night. It wasn't that bad but it did upset me when i couldn't respond to my actions. it will grow a new one
It would most likely be taken off. I am not completely sure. But I think that is what happens.
When your oxygen saturation levels drop, your blood is not carrying enough oxygen to provide your body the levels it needs. If they drop low enough, your body will shut down and you can die. If you are hooked to a ventilator, this will help the body increase the oxygen saturation levels in your blood, potentially saving your life.
well what happens is the repiration is external
Brain death can't be determined if the heart has already stopped, this would be considered cardiac death. Brain death is determined when someone is on a ventilator (not breathing on their own due to injury or illness) and an EEG or other procedure has been completed and shows no signs of brain activity. The body will continue to "live" with the help of the ventilator oxygenating the organs, but when taken off the ventilator then the body has no impulse to breathe for itself due to the brain being dead.
