When all the coolant in the radiator and coolant tank heats up the volume will increase and force it's way through the weakest point which would probbaly be the cap on the recovery tank - if you have filled the recovery tank to the maximum you had better take half of it out.
The car normally pushes it out the over flow.
It could end up popping the reservoir cover off and "burping" the excess coolant out.
The coolant goes into the overflow bottle on the passenger side, fill it cold and do not over fill.
A 'coolant recovery system' is, in effect, an expansion tank, or an over-flow area for an engine's coolant (sometimes called anti-freeze) as the engine warms. When you start your engine, it becomes warmer due to the combustion process of the gasoline it burns, and the friction caused by moving parts. This heat is transferred to the cooling system of the vehicle, and it's radiator. As the engine's coolant warms, it expands within the radiator, causing pressure. At a certain pressure (usually arounds 15 psi) the cap on the fill-hole of the radiator allows the expanding coolant to flow into a plastic 'overflow tank'; a part of the coolant-recovery system. When you shut your car off, and the engine cools, a vacuum is created by the decrease in temperature, which sucks the coolant from the plastic 'over-flow' tank, back into the radiator. This is the 'recovery' process. Most vehicles from the mid 1970's, possibly even earlier, have had some form of a coolant recovery system.
it leaks
Depending on the vehicle, there should be a fill line on the over-flow resevore
Coolant is added to the overflow bottle instead of the radiator. The overflow bottle will allow fluid to fill over into the radiator.
Fill your coolant reservoir and the light should turn off. Do it soon or your engine may over heat.
Not much, the excess coolant would be pushed out the overflow tube.
You may have a bad head gasket or possibly a cracked head.
fill up the radiator and then fill up the over flow located on the pass. side of the truck half way
you spill some. is this a serious question?
