∙ 12y agoThe general expectation of all scientists is that other scientists are reporting careful and accurate work, so they are justified in basing their OWN work on it. For a scientist to lie about his results not only destroys his OWN credibility (like the "Boy Who Cried Wolf", nobody would ever believe him again) but it debases the work of any other scientist to uses the false results.
Worse yet, for one scientist to lie about his results reduces the credibility of every other scientist. This is what has been so pernicious in the falsehoods spread by the advocates of "anthropogenic global warming"; a few pretend-scientists lying about their results have destroyed any claim that AGW might be real.
AGW _might_ be real. But so much of the "science" about it has been overblown or falsified that most non-scientists can't have any "faith" that the results are correct. This is what happens when a failed divinity student goes in to politics and decides to create his own religion.
