After Julius Caesar's assassination, Cicero and Mark Antony became two leading men in Rome. Cicero was the spokesman of the senate and Mark Antony led the supporters of Caesar. Cicero tried to exploit tensions between Octavian (later he was called Augustus) and Mark Antony and delivered a famous series of denunciations against Antony in which he also praised Octavian.
