What happened to Arlan's department stores?

Arlan's opened it's first store in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1945. The department store sold anything and everything, including pets. They celebrated the opening of their 50th store in 1965 and reached 119 stores in 1970. Unfortunately, they were affected by the recession of the early 70s. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1973.
