The most distinctive landforms on the Sunshine Coast in southeast Queensland are the Glasshouse Mountains. These are numerous volcanic plugs which rise from the surrounding coastal bushland. They have individual names, which include Tibrogargan, Beerwah, Coonowrin and Ngun Ngun. Other landforms of the Sunshine Coast include Mt Cooroora, where the King of the Mountain festival is held each year and Mt Coolum, which overlooks the ocean.
There are no active volcanoes in Australia, only extinct ones. For thousands of years, the only active volcano on Australian territory was Big Ben, which is located on Heard Island. More recently, there has been considerable volcanic activity on the nearby McDonald Islands, also Australian territory.
