Who were the wives of Shah Jahan?

Shah Jahan had three wives. In 1607, when he was 15 years old, his father Jahangir betrothed him to Arjmand Banu Begum, a daughter of Nur Jahan's brother Asaf Khan (afterwards Mumtaz Mahal). His first wife was Kandahari Begum, daughter of Muzaffar Husain Mirza, whom he married in 1610. He married Mumtaz Mahal in 1612. Mumtaz was his favorite wife for whom the Taj Mahal was built. The Emperor in weal and woe, in settled residence and travel, never parted with her company (Padshahnama). His third wife was the daughter of Shah Nawaz Khan. His marriage with the daughters of Muzaffar Husain Mirza and Shah Nawaz Khan were purely political alliances.
