Balance is one of the body functions controlled by the 'inner ear'.

The vestibular system (the system making up the inner ear) plays an important role in your balance, but it's not the only thing involved. Your vision also provides some feedback, as well as our sensation of pressure. Another sense that helps us is called proprioception, which is our ability to determine the position of our body parts relative to one another. All of the feedback gathered by these various systems and senses is processed by the regions in your brain that are related to fine motor control, which is what then ultimately influences your movement so that you stay balanced.
