Well, there are three salivary glands - the sublingual, the submandibular, and the parotid gland. These glands release saliva, which is mixed with food while you eat. Also, these glands release amylase, an enzymes that begins the breakdown of starches in the mouth.

They produce saliva to initiate digestion of carbohydrates and help bind your food 'bolus' so you can swallow it more easily. Other cells called goblet cells produce mucus to assist the movement of food through your digestive tract.

They have digestive functions: plus their product binds food together,and begins digestion of carbohydrates.

They also produce a mild antibiotic.

They make the enzyme salivary amylase which breaks polysaccharides into disaccharides and starch into disaccharides.

These glands produce no hormones. They produce two enzymes: lipase and amylase. Plus lysozyme, a weak antibacterial.
