A horse breed that has evolved to thrive in cold weather is the Icelandic horse. They have a thick double coat, muscular build, and sturdy hooves for navigating icy terrain. They are known for their ability to withstand extremely low temperatures and harsh conditions.
A butane or "torch" lighter works best in cold and windy conditions.

Any horse can live out in really cold and wet weather as long as the horse is not clipped and with a natural coat, with blankets it is hard for a horse to regulate its body temperature when the blanket is removed in cold weather. Any and all breeds of horses will grow a thick winter coat to bare the cold weather.
sometimes not in cold weather
you would put a rug on a horse during cold, windy or wet weather or when the horse is sweaty/wet or being bothered by flies. you would put a stable rug on a stabled horse when it's cold, sweat rug on a wet/sweaty horse, a new zealand rug on a horse turned out at grass when it's wet/windy/cold and a summer/fly sheet on a horse being bothered by flies.
The weather would be cold and windy.
A hardy native pony, definitely no bigger than 15 hh, and no 'fine' breeds, ie Thoroughbreds. Field shelter should be readily available to any horse living out, especially in very hot/very cold weather, and use your common sense when it comes to rugs. If the bases of your horse's ears are cold, so is he! A 'hairy' horse will cope the best.
best weather is when its cold for me i fish at a lake and i always catch wen its cold at around evening time

Keeping a horse in Alaska would have its challenges but should not deter you. The most important thing would be to provide shelter that will protect the horse from the harsh weather. A fully inclosed stall with a good roof would be the best. Blanketing your horse with good quality, water-proof blankets would also be a must. And lights in the barn to offset the the long days when there is no sun. Horses can get depressed too from lack of sunlight. Most breeds would probably be fine as long as they are kept warm enough. Arabians and Thoroughbreds may have a harder time in such a cold environment. Breeds that were bred with cold in mind, Fjords, Icelandics, ect., would fare better.
