two thirds of the Senate
The Senate
The President does not make treaties. Congress does. This includes the Senate as well as the House of Representatives.
The United States Senate must approve all presidential appointments and treaties. The duties of the United States Senate is listed in the United States Constitution.
Congress can override a presidential veto by a vote of 2/3 of the members of both houses. The House can formally impeach the president and the Senate holds the trial.Congress can reject presidential appointments and refuse treaties.
The Senate has the important job of approving treaties made by the president.
When President proposes a bill, a congress (both House and Senate first have to approve it. Then the president can sign the bill into law or veto it. If he vetoes it, Congress can override the bill and make it a law. The Judicial branch, though, can declare it unconstitutional. War, or Treaties- President can make treaties and send troops, but Congress have to approve the treaty and war.
The congress is made up of 2 houses; the house of representatives and the senate. Each house have different powers. The house of representatives can impeach the president and propose tax laws. The senate can decide whether the president is guilty or innocent, approve presidential appointments, and approve treaties with foreign countries. Both houses can propose laws, declare war, override the president veto with 2/3 vote, and can propose amendments to the constitution with 2/3 veto. Hoped this help :)
The legislative branch with a 2/3 majority vote.
The Senate is responsible for either approving of a treaty or rejecting it.
All senators meet in the Senate's chamber and discuss new bills that have been introduced, they debate on whether to approve the bill (this can be a really long time). They approve bills that are proposed before they go on to congress and the president so it can become a law.
No, it cannot. The power to make treaties with foreign countries is expressly reserved to the president under Article II of the US Constitution. The only role Congress plays is that treaties are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. Note that "Congress", (i.e. the Senate and House of Representatives together) does not have a role in approving treaties. Only the Senate has such a role.
no- Congress has to approve any change in the make-up of the cabinet. The president has more lee-way in the composition of his White House staff but Congress still has to appropriate the money for salaries.
