In the United States, individual states are now required by federal law to process the photographs associated with drivers licenses using facial recognition software. When you apply for a new or renewed license, this is done while you are in the DMV office waiting to be called to the counter.

It is a crime to apply for or possess a government-issued id in anything other than your true legal name. The DMV does summon law enforcement officers to arrest suspected violators. The police or sheriff will come to the DMV office to effect an arrest if appropriate.
