Define "a small amount". A teaspoon? A few drops? A pint? An automatic transmission is very sensitive to the fluid: it depends on it, not only for the hydraulic operations of the transmission, but also for cooling and lubrication. Also, compatibility with the seals and gaskets is an issue. If there is any doubt in your mind about the issue, a complete flush and filter change is relatively cheap insurance.
as long as it is a small amount you will be okay. but if the trans fluid is pink or discolerd now then you should change fluid and filter asap
You don't. It uses a small amount of transmission grease similar to the grease in the rear end.
You have to fill it up where the transmission dipstick is. It requires a small funnel. There is no other place to fill the transmission fluid up. The dipstick is to the left side of the motor and down low.
Usually, I would remove the dipstick for the transmission and a funnel that is small enough to fit in there and that's how I add transmission fluid. You have to make sure you add the right amount and use the specified transmission fluid for that car.
No, less than 1 pint will do no harm.
Motorcraft MERCON ATF ( automatic transmission fluid ) for the 5 speed manual transmission - according to the 2002 F-150 owners manual
Add a small amount at a time using a small funnel directly into the dipstick tube. Let the added fluid settle into the transmission for a moment and then recheck level(engine running). Reperform as needed until at the full mark.
The only thing you should put in your transmission is transmission fluid specifically designed for it. To cut one line of thought short right now, DO NOT put brake fluid in a transmission; they are not interchangeable. (Can you get away with putting a small amount of brake fluid in? Possibly, but not certainly, and you will definitely void any remaining warranty you have by doing so.)
Do you mean into the engine? If so it depends on how little; a quart is too much for a small engine. There wouldn't be any immediate damage but change the oil before running the car again.
The location of all transmission fill locations (if your unable to find a plug on the transmission itself) is where you check your transmission fluid dipstick. Pour fluid down the very small drain with a small funnel slowly. Check your level then add the appropriate amount. Start your engine (to warm it up because it is much thicker) and fill until fluid is at the max level. Never overfill transmission fluid.
It should be the same as a 2002 tracker, behind the manifold, just to the left at the very back of the motor, small dipstick says ATF on it, you will need a funnel designed just for adding transmission fluid, opening very small. Hope this helps.
The drain bolt is on the bottom of the transmission (should be easy to find) and you refill using the transmission dipstick tube (you need a small diameter funnel. Check owner manual for fluid amount.
