is the fan belt broke or loose
If the engine runs at all, the timing belt is not "broke."
No, the engine will not run with a broken cam belt.
WELL IT DEPENDS WEATHER OR NOT IT IS A INTERFEARENCE ENGINE OR NOT. ONCE THE BELT BROKE A VALVE COULD OF HIT A PISTON WHICH WOULD OF SHEARD A KEY on the cam or the crankshaft gear that held it in time.( this would be an interfearence engine)...an noninterfearence engine should'nt hit anything inside the engine when the timimg belt break's. so it would be some other problem. Karl
The engine will stop running. This is not an interference engine so there will be no engine damage. Just replace the belt.
i HAVE A 98 AND THE BELT BROKE TWICE AND DID NO DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. The first time I was on freeway doing 75 and it broke. I have a '97 Contour and had no damage to the engine when my timing belt broke. Make sure you check your pulleys to ensure that the bearings are good. Mine were not and had to replace them.
no its has a chain!
it is possible that the valve stems got bent depending on how many rpm's the engine was running at the time the belt broke.
If the timing belt breaks on any engine the damage to the engine is usually very bad.
I have full info - what engine do you have?
Maybe, it depends on if your engine is an interference engine.
if you turned the engine off IMMEDIATLY after the belt broke, you should be ok. If, however, the engine ran for any amount of time with the belt broke - you probably have quite a bit of damange ...
