There is one "true" successor to Star Wars Galaxies. Star Wars: The Old Republic was created by Bioware (creators of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, a fantastic RPG itself) under license from LucasArts. It's a traditional MMORPG in the style of World of Warcraft except... it has Jedi. Also, there are on-rails space segments, which are fun, but don't quite match what SWG had.
Well yes and no. There were originally planning to have a sequel to the KOTOR series but for some reason they axed it (I know it's terrible) however they are now bringing out a game based on the series called "The Old Republic". It's set much further into the future but it's still a Star Wars RPG in the same era.
RPG Jinsei Game happened in 1993.
It depends what type of game you're after. KotOR is an RPG, whereas SWBF2 is a shooter. However, in terms of overall quality, KotOR still remains one of the finest games Bioware have ever produced, and I'd highly recommend it.
