This can be two reasons for this....(1) is that your emergency brake is not fully OFF or (2), your brake fluid is past the LOW level in your brake fluid container in the engine....just add more brake fluid to top it up to FULL level and the brake light will go off.
They are tied to either the brake lights or the tail lights.
Check the brake light switch down on the brake pedal.

Typically your dash lights go out when you are driving with no tail/brake lights. So check those fusses to see if one is blown, this is a safety feature.

it means that one of your brake lights are out .thats why it only lights up when you hit the brakes. once you replace it , the light will go off.
