Sprained ankles usually do not need crutches. Unless there are some severe ligament tears (in which case it is not really just a sprain) the weight bearing parts of the ankle are not affected all that much and it is safe to walk (although it still may be somewhat painful).

The best treatment is rest, ice, compression (ace wraps) and elevation. Gentile range of motion helps promote proper healing and so an over-reliance on crutches and boots can be detrimental. A canvas or similar material lace or Velcro ankle brace can be purchased in most pharmacies. These help provide compression and support and so can make walking more comfortable and reduce the chances or re-injury.

Should you use crutches if you have a sprained ankle?

Yes. I had to use crutches when I sprained my ankle. If you walk on it, it won't heal. And limping is fatiguing.

You have crutches because you sprained your ankle but many people in your grade also have them too people think you faked it what should you do?

I do not mean to be offensive, but honestly this is a stupid question. if you have a sprained ankle and need crutches, fine. But if people think you faked it, that is ridiculous an injury is an injury, and who uses crutches in school for fun?

How many days should you use crutches if you sprain your ankle?

Yes as when you have a sprained ankle you can't put pressure on your foot if your foot is severly sprained. I would recomend getting crutches but (if you don't want to wear crutches you can wear an ankle brace where you can get from any store) only use them for about 3-7 days and start trying to walk and do muscle exercises. You can get crutches from a pharmacy/drug store. Hope this helps.

Does a twisted ankle need crutches?

It depends on you. If there's no fracture, than you don't need crutches unless you want crutches. If you feel you cannot walk easily/ step on your sprained ankle at all, than you should get crutches. If you can limp around just fine, then there is no reason to get crutches.

What do you do if your sprained ankle has not healed within 2 months?
