When this happens you must check to see if the seal from the old oil filter is stuck on the engine. If this has occurred then you will have 2 oil filter seals on the engine stacked on top of each other which is what causes the leak.
The easiest way to see if that happened is to look at the old filter and see if the seal is still on it.
If there is only one seal then you will need to pull the new filter off and see if something (like a bit of sludge or possibly a wire) has gotten up under the seal.
Also make sure you oil the new seal when you install the filter. Never install an oil filter with a dry seal.
In addition to the above excellent answer you may have tightened the filter too much or too little. Tighten it 3/4 turn after it makes contact with the mounting surface, no more or no less. If it still leaks then dirt may have become trapped under the gasket or it may not be the filter that is actually leaking. It may be a valve cover gasket. Another rare possibility is the gasket holding the mounting place in place may be leaking.
i had the same problem, It was the fuel filter stopped up that caused the fuel pump to quit. had to buy both. i also had the same problem, i just had to change the fuel filter and adjust the idle position switch and it runs strong now
By chance, did you use sealant when you put the new gasket on? If not, there is your problem.
Did you ever find out how to change the air filter on a scenic. Been trying to get the air box off for about 2 hrs now :-(
What makes it undriveable, symptoms
I had my oil changed at a oil change place which I will not name on my 1996 Saturn wagon. When the worker replaced the oil filter, the old gasket was left on the filter. This caused oil to spew up in my engine and all over my engine and belt. I now need to have a new belt since oil residue is all over the belt. The oil change place offered to clean up that was in my engine but not replace the belt. It may not be your problem but I sure do wish that this car wasn't so low to the ground that it can't be changed by us.
it could be couple of things depending on where its leaking from also when u change a transmission fluid u r suppose 2 change the gasket and the filter if u didn't that might be ur problem but if u did then check the following 1) the bolts might be loose but dont tightened it too much 2) the transmission might be overfilled 3) the surface of the transmission pan might have been damaged 4) if u used a sealant to make a gasket make sure its the correct sealant..........and like i said it all depends on where its leaking from
I would recommend getting a transmission filter kit, and drop the pan entirely and just change the gasket, along with the filter. There's a specific pattern to tighten the pan bolts. (usually some kind of criss-cross pattern) Use a torque wrench and figure out EXACTLY how tight they should be and see if it still leaks. If it does, the pan itself might be distorted.
sounds like a fuel or air problem change the fuel filter and air filter first also could be sensor or wiring fault
Not a lot of info to go on here. Was it starting fine before filter change? If so did you remember to relieve fuel pressure before removing old filter? If not, problem may be Ford's infamous safety shut-off switch. Also make sure filter is installed correctly. (Arrow pointing towards front of vehicle.)
Most likely the fuel filter is plugged up from gas tank sediment. Change the filter.
if the fluid in your T- bird has never been changed before... DO NOT change it now unless your ready to pay for a tranny overhaul or a rebilt. The new fluid will (9 times out of 10) cause your seals to start leaking. ask a tranny expert who is not after your business.
My boyfriend won't help me. How do you change a air filter in a Lincoln Navigator 1999. I bought a new one now what?
