An excerpt from the NJ vehicle titles site. "To lodge a formal complaint, contact the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs. MVC must be notified separately for assistance obtaining a title"
It also said that this has to be done @ MV in person and within 10 days or face a penalty
You probably signed something saying that you would get the title to the lender so I believe that they can accelerate the loan. It shouldn't be hard for you to get a duplicate title if the title is lost.
Go speak to an attorney.
Elvis never was "sent to prison". Elvis only known arrest was for speeding in the 1950's and he paid the cash fine immediately.
Sue them for wilful noncompliance and harassment.
Normally when the loan on a vehicle is paid off, a form is sent to you from the bank releasing the lien from the vehicle stating basically that you have paid off the loan. This is taken to or sent into DMV where the title is changed removing the lien from the title. Some people never update the title and the "lien" language remains on the title. I once purchased a motorcycle that the forms had not been sent into DMV to adjust the language on the title. I had no problem registering the vehicle and with my new title, lien was on the title. The bank never contacted me as they had been paid off long ago. If this sounds like a similar situation, just sell the vehicle explaining this to the potential buyer.
When you pay off a car the Title should be issued directly to you. Unless the bank sent it to The DMV to get their name off of it. Then it will go to you.
I don't think so
No, Cash cannot be sent by UPS.
NO!
Most titles are warehoused at a '''clearing house''' type business, not at the financial institution the loan is through. Before mailing your title this business verifies there are no other leins on the title (i.e.insurance co.,etc.)
my daughter purchased a car and had a hard time getting the title for it until she discovered that running red lights at a red light camera got tickets sent to the owner listed on the title. After waiting a year for the seller to give her the title( he also would not return her calls), it only took 3 tickets and he was at her door, title in hand.
Yes, if you are buying it outright. As in a cash sale from an individual, A car lot may not have the title on hand if they purchased the car recently and have sent it to the state for reassignment. Be very careful we buying and only getting a bill of sale.
