What if your headlights on your 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee intermittently turn on and off while the Jeep is turned off and the lights are on the auto setting?

(http://www.wjjeeps.com/lamps/headlamps.htm) AUTO HEADLIGHTS CYCLE ON AND OFF WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND TURNED OFF (with headlamp switch in "Auto" mode) The problem is most prominent on 1999-2001 WJ's, but it could apply to the 2002-2004 WJ's. The problem could be in the switch. The switch is a multiplexed circuit, the resistance of the HEADLIGHT ON position is very close to the AUTO position; the switch has been updated to correct this problem.

If theres not a off position on the switch, check to see if theres a manual override button. just below the head light switch there is a little round button push it 3 to 4 times and it will shut the automatic running lights off and will not come back on untill you do it again or shut the vehicle off and restart the engine...

When at night a driver should dim his headlights when an oncoming motor vehicle comes within?

At night a driver should dim his headlights when an oncoming motor vehicle comes within 1,000 feet. You should switch your headlights from full beam to dipped beam when a oncoming car passes. It is unsafe to leave your headlights on full beam as it blinds the driver of the oncoming car.
