If the battery meter in the car is running low, you probably have a bad alternator or a shorted cell in the battery. There are other possibilities, but these are the most likely. The regulator fuse could be blown, but that usually means a bad alternator.

When car not running battery say 13.14?

You should read 12.6 volts with a digital volt meter on a fully charged battery with the engine not running.

I recently installed a new stereo system into my car now my car sounds like my battery is weak is it my battery that I have to change or my alternator?

Check the battery with a vom meter while the engine is running. It should read about 14.5 volts and if so the alternator is working, than have the battery checked Now if the meter does not read 14.5 volts, have the battery, and the alternator checked. If they both check out okay, the problem is in the battery or the alternator circuit on the vehicle.

Can a cigarette lighter drain the car battery if the car is on?

If the car is on (Ignition is on, engine is running) then no. Nothing should drain the battery when the car is running, there is a device called an alternator with a belt that usually goes around the crankshaft that transforms the mechanical energy into electrical energy. As long as you have the car running, the battery should not die. If so, you have a mechanical problem.

if your car battery has a dead cell will it die while idling?

As long as your car engine is running, it should be OK. An exhausted battery will only become a problem when you try to start the car.

Would a car stall if the battery was dead?

The problem is probably the alternator. If the alternator fails to keep the battery charged the battery will keep the car running until it can no longer supply voltage to essential systems and the car will stall.

How do you measure the voltage on a car alternator?

get a multi meter that reads dc voltage & touch the black (negative -) wire to the negative battery post & the red (positive +) wire to the positive battery post with car running. car off is battery voltage, car on is alternator voltage.

Why is my car battery dying while my car is running?

The Alternator might be bad. Make sure the battery terminals are clean, and the wires are good. If you still have a problem check the fuses.

How can you tell if you your problem is the alternator or the battery on a 1993 Ford Tempo?

to make a quick check -- start car - disconnect the positive cable at the battery as it is running - if car stalls the alternator is bad if it stays running the battery is probably too weak to hold a charge. (daddmac)

Should your car stay running when you take the pos battery termanal off?

A battery is used to start a car. Once it is running, the alternator then supplies electrical energy to charge the battery as well as power the electrical systems in the car. Removing the battery while the car is running will not affect the running of the car.

Why would the battery light be on after replacing the battery?

The battery light on a car is just an idiot light and does not necessarily mean the battery is bad. More likely is a bad alternator. If you or a friend has a digital volt ohm meter set it to VDC (Volts DC) and put the meter on the battery terminals with the car running. If your alternator and voltage regulator (They are combined in newer cars) then the meter should read about 13.8 to 14.5 VDC. If it reads less have your alternator tested and/or replaced.

Alarm going off in Lexus rx300?

Car alarm in Lexus ES300 started going off at random when car was parked, not running. I changed the key fob battery (flat watch battery) with a new battery and it fixed the problem.
