It means he wants to have both you and the person(s) he's cheating with. Of course he wants to make the relationship work, because it allows him to have you and anyone else he's fooling with. If you want to share the 'germs' that he gets from being with these other persons, stay with him. As the expression goes: Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
