Gerbils who are not accustomed to being handled will urinate and defecate frequently when you attempt to hold them. Fear, unfamiliar surroundings, and the effect of being held are typical causes. Try holding your gerbil for a few seconds several times a day and gradually build up to holding them for longer periods of time. The more often you handle them the less likely they will be to urinate or defecate. Please keep in mind that even when tame gerbils will still have the occasional accident.

Not really. All this means is that they don't want you to pick them up right now. If you pick them up alot over time, they will stop squeaking.

How do you remove a gerbil from it's cage?

If you mean to ask, how do you remove a gerbil from its cage then i can help you. First of all if you have just purchased your gerbil and it has been put in a new environment you shouldn't pick it up for a couple of days. Gerbils are easy to pick up, all u have to do is just put your hands in the cage and wrap your hands under their body and lift them up. after you do it a couple times it will get easier. hope this helped! ; )

What is bad to do with a gerbil?

Never pull, grab, or pick them up by their tail! The tail is the weakest part of a gerbil's body. Also, handle them gently. They are small and fragile animals, and will only bite if you mistreat them. Hope I helped!

Gerbil life when to hold a baby gerbil?

For the safety of the gerbil, you should only hold the babies after they open their eyes. At this time, they are more mobile and should be picking up new scents. If you pick them up at a younger stage, the parents may think your scent is that of a predator and they will kill and eat the baby.

Do gerbils bite?

Your gerbil probably won't bite you. But it usually will if you squeeze them. Never pick them up by their tail because it could come of, leavin your gerbil in pain, and you with a bite-this can easily be avoided though. If you have to chase the gerbil around the cage, open the door & pop your hand down and keep it still. Let your gerbil walk over to you, smell your hand (shouldn't bit) and when they walk onto it you can lift them up but keep them over the cage or sit down so if they fall they don't have far to go. If you take care of your gerbil it won't bite you unless it's been mis-handled in the past - then you can start wearing gloves until they trust you. This was 1st answer: It depends on how you're holding them. Don't squeeze them too tight, pick them up by the tail, or if they're scared. If you have to chase them around to hold them, stop and leave them alone. They're scared.
