I would guess that this means you are suffering a withdrawl from the absense of a parent. This doesn't sound like something that would be abnormal for someone in your situation.
The child can ask, however they have no right to make that choice. As for having a prison record, that does not necessarily make a bad parent.
Children should be able to visit a parent in prison as long as the parent did not do an offense against the child. It should also be up to the child if they want to see their parent in prison.
It is not clear whether the "kid" is dreaming, and crying while asleep, or whether the parent is having the dream. Young children do dream, and do experience frightening dreams. If it is difficult to rouse a baby or very young child from sleep, the parent should consult the child's pediatrician or other health care professional, particularly if the child is taking any sort of medication.
