did u have the timing in the engine pulled down or did you have the distributer out if only distributer was out it may be one tooth off being in right place try using a timing light sure sounds like the distributor is one tooth off find #1 pison set it at top dead centre. find which point on distributer should be number one in firing order then mak a mark on distributer lift distributer out and rotate shaft a little till rotar points at mark then reinstall the use timing light to get it exact
