the purpose of black hole is still a mystery but one thing for sure is that they have a very strong gravity in the middle of the black hole. some says these gravity is what holding galaxy together and that the centre of the galaxy including the Milky Way is a black hole. This could means that Earth itself could be circling around a black hole for all we know it. Without it, our galaxy would fall and split apart and the Milky Way will not exist.
