Scarlet Fever it settled in her eyes and made her blind.
No. Her only brother, Charles Frederick Jr, was biological and died in infancy (the adopted brother in the television series is fictitious and is portrayed as being shot and killed in a bank robbery when he was 12.)In the TV series Laura had two adopted brothers, Albert and James. Albert ended up getting I believe cancer and dying around 20 years old. James did get shot in a bank robbery at the age of twelve but survived due to a miracle or what seemed to be a miracle.actually in the television series Albert dies from leukemiaYes, Charles Frederick Ingalls, known as "Freddy", but he died at the age of nine months.
Not really, but she sometimes spoke before she thought -- something her Pa reminded her not to do many times. In November 1881, when Laura was 14, she spoke out angrily in school (absolutely not tolerated) over unfair punishment of her little sister Carrie -- for idly and subconsciously rocking her school desk -- and the girls were sent home. This was a dreadful punishment; as Laura writes; the only thing worse was to be expelled. That semester, the teacher at Laura's school was Eliza Jane Wilder, older sister of Laura's future husband. While Laura acknowledged Miss Wilder was a "good scholar," she seems to have been unable to maintain order in the school. As Laura told it, Miss Wilder played favorites, taunted students and in fact, told outright lies. For whatever reason, she seemed to have a vendetta against Laura from day 1, and goaded her for most of the fall term. That afternoon, Laura and Carrie told their story to Ma and Pa, who accepted it calmly. They believed the girls, but Ma observed they must never criticize a teacher. Pa asked Laura if she had done anything to cause Miss Wilder to dislike her or to punish her, and the answer was no. That evening, Ma made clear her feelings on the subject of speaking before you think when she wrote in Laura's autograph album: "If wisdom's ways you wisely seek, five things observe with care: to whom you speak, of whom you speak, and how and when and where." As a postscript, Miss Wilder returned to the family farm in Minnesota that winter. She had taught for several years, but this was apparently her last term. Eliza Jane soon after went to Washington to work for the Department of the Interior. She was also a homesteader who worked as hard as any man. Eventually, the two sisters-in-law, Laura and Eliza Jane made up, and from about age 9, Laura's daughter Rose lived with Eliza Jane and her family in Louisiana. A hundred years ago, it was not uncommon for parents to send their children to live with relatives. The explanation in this case was that the schools in Louisiana were better than those in Mansfield, Missouri, where Rose Wilder was growing up.
"Flutterbudget", while not defined in Webster's dictionary, is a term of endearment Pa used when describing Laura's personality. Throughout her books, Laura often contrasted the difference between both her mother and her sister Mary (patient, quiet, and good), and herself (impatient, headstrong, and naughty). She recorded several anecdotes for us and shared stories of how her impulsive behavior had unpleasant consequences. In the first chapter of "These Happy Golden Years", she is about to leave home to teach school for the first time, and looks to Pa for advice. Pa: "There is one thing you must guard against. You are so quick, Flutterbudget. You are apt to act or speak first, and think afterward. Now you must do your thinking first, and speak afterward. If you will remember to do that, you will not have any trouble."
No they are not, Laura McCord is lying. They aren't real.
Laura started writing books to record for children how much life had changed in a short time. She began writing in the time just after her mother and Mary had died within a few years of each other, and this seems to have prompted a desire to reflect and record their times together. In addition, there was a need to financially support herself and Almanzo, as he could no longer work the farm as he once had. She was to comment after the writing of her first book that she had discovered during the process that she had lived a very interesting life. She also wrote the books to show the progress of moving across America The only thing not included in her main books, is about how she went backward a little bit because Pa had a job in a hotel. She did not write that one because it did not fit in with her theme.
The Little House on the Prairie books are old-fashionedand based on the experiences of the author, Laura Ingalls Wilder. If you'd like to write a book like this, you could try making one up (if you are knowledgeable about past times), or better yet, write about your childhood experiences. If you are too young, you might want to ask an elderly family member or friend to share stories of their past. However, writing a book like Little House isn't easy if you are not from those times or familiar with the era. So why not write about write now? Write about your life, or your childhood in these times.Back when the author was a child, she would have never been able to sell her books. People didn't want to read about her lifewhen their life was exactly the same! So write a story about your experiences, wait until you're very old, then sell! It's hard to imagine, but someday the things you use, and the thing you do, will seem OLD FASHIONED!
