Anorexia, defined by a loss of appetite accompanied by weight loss or poor weight gain, usually denotes a VERY SERIOUS psychological disorder. This is such a complex subject matter that I will list the most salient side-effects from anorexia nervosa - * liver failure, renal failure, electrolyte imbalances (sodium and/or potassium may become abnormal in the blood), heart disorder (arrhythmias), and death. The list of complications is much longer but these are some of the most serious. Several famous people have died from anorexia - one person that comes to mind is Karen Carpenter (of the Carpenters' singing group, back in the 1970's). Loss of bone density and resulting risk of fractures. Loss of teeth with receeding gums and foul breath. Sores and breakouts on the skin, and even loss of hair. Kidney and liver failure are also common, as well as permanent damage to the internal organs and systems. The body can go into menapause very early and prevent a female from having children. All of these make the person susceptible to illness and diseases of all types, many of which can be fatal. And the person looks really, really ugly, just skin and bones, hollow eyes and knobby joints.
There are many healthy problems that go along with anorexia. Some are... *Lack of energy *Dry, flaky, or discolored skin *Bone loss *Hair loss, discoloration, thinning, or loss of "shine" *Girls stop their period *Dizziness, fainting, and headaches *Getting cold easily *Loss of fat *Loss of muscles mass *Become weaker *Organ probelms / failure *Growth of "peach-fuzz" hair (called lanugo) around the body *Insomnia *Mood swings *Depression *Low blood pressure / heart rate *Anemia *Kidney stones *Brittle, discolored nails
A major factor that causes anorexia from an ooutside source is peers. If a person has low-self esteem or a low-self image, they are more likely to become depressed and potentially anorexic. If a person is similarly always told that "thin is good" or that only rail-thin models or famous people are pretty and attractive, that person is likely to develop an eating disorder, too. Also, (although this is sort of "internal") is throgh genetics. A person with a biological (not married in or adopted) family memeber - especially a mother - who was anorexic has a higher chance of also becoming anorexic.
Many anorexics fall into these categories...
* Female (90%)
* From a Western Nation (2/3)
* Has a direct family member with an eating disorder (40%, though this is estimated and not totally medically confirmed)
* Has a drinking problem (72% of alcoholics have eating-disorder-like actions)
* From a middle- or upper-class family (95%)
There are many different physical, medical, and mental complications that can accompany anorexia. Some (but not all) include....
* Weight loss
* Brittle bones
* Vitamin / Mineral defficieny
* Dry skin
* Hair loss
* Discolored nails
* Stress on kidneys, liver, and lungs
* Heart murmur, heart attack, heart failure
* Dizziness
* Fainting
* Fatigue
* Loss of menstrual cycle (women)
* Loss of sex drive (men)
* Depression
* OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
* BDD (Body Dismorphic Disorder)
* Social isolation
* Disordered mental state
* Low self-esteem
* Low sense of self-worth
* Excessive exercising
* Attempts to hide weight loss (baggy clothes, for example)
* Odd eating habits
* Denial of weight loss or problem
* Anemia
* Mood swings
* Irritability
There are many risk factors and potential problems / complications with anorexia. The biggest / worst is that of heart failure and death.
Yes, someone suffering from anorexia is at greater risk of illness because of a depleted immune system. It is recommended that a variety of vitamins and anti oxidants be added to your lifestyle.
People with anorexia face the risk of low body mass and osteoporosis, as well as risking relapse of anorexia nervosa.
Everything.
The risk of developing anorexia is higher among adolescents preparing for careers that require attention to weight and/or appearance
death
Females between the ages of 12 and 26 are most at risk.
Because there is no risk if the person drinks in moderation. And drinking in moderation is pleasurable, improves health, and increases length of life.
players have gear that only serves as a weapon. it increases the level of force when running into someone!
It is considered that anorexia can sometimes have a genetic link. If a person (particularly a girl) has a diret biological family member, then it is possible that they might have a slightly higher risk of developing anorexia or other eating disorders.
Obesity increases the risk of hypertension because fat builds in your arteries and increases your blood pressure.
A risk factor is something that someone does, has or is that increases there chance of having a specific cancer. smoking, drinking, family history of a specific cancer, older age, obesity etc. are all risk factors of cancer
Stroke risk is increased for people with diabetes, heart disease (especially atrial fibrillation), high blood pressure, prior stroke, or TIA. Risk of stroke increases tenfold for someone with one or more TIAs.
