The atomic number (Z) gives the number of protons in the atom. For a neutral atom, this is equal to the number of electrons. For an ion, plus or minus the number given by the charge. i.e. sodium has atomic number 11, so Na would have 11 electrons and Na+ would have 10 electrons (each electron is -1 remember)

How many electrons does sulfur have according to the periodic table?

Just so you know, the periodic table does not give any indication of how many electrons an atom has but 95% of sulfur atoms are neutral and so contain 16 electrons.

What information does the symbol give you on the periodic table?

It identifies the element.

Which elements are givers and takers on the periodic table?

Givers are elements on the left side of the periodic table, known as metals, which readily give away electrons to form positive ions. Takers are elements on the right side of the periodic table, known as nonmetals, which tend to accept electrons to form negative ions.

What group of elements on the periodic table give electrons?

Group I (alkali metals) and Group II (alkaline earth metals) elements on the periodic table are more likely to give away electrons to form positive ions. These elements have one or two electrons in their outermost energy level, making it easier for them to lose these electrons and achieve a stable electron configuration.

Some say the periodic table is read like a book Explain how you read the periodic table and how this can give you information about elements in the table?

you read it from left to right

What can Groups 3-12 of the periodic table be?

Transition metals that have 1 or 2 valence electrons, and give 1 0r 2 electrons away to form compounds.

Which families on the periodic table give and gain electrons?

The families on the periodic table that tend to give electrons are the metals, such as alkali metals in group 1 and alkaline earth metals in group 2. The families that tend to gain electrons are the nonmetals, such as halogens in group 17 and noble gases in group 18.

What information about an atom properties can you read from the periodic table?

Different periodic tables show different information about an atom's properties. On the normal periodic table you can read the atomic number, which is the value of the number of protons in the nucleus.

Why did they number elements on periodic table?

No one give number to elements in periodic table. they have been calculated

Group numbers on the periodic table help you determine what?

each group of the periodic table consists of elements that resemble each other. for instance Lithium, sodium, potassium, and a few more a grouped together, are called the alkali metals. These are all highly reactive, thus they are in a group. Furthermore group also determines the number of valence electrons are present in some cases. Hope that answered your question.

What are some elements on the periodic table that need to give up 2 electrons to have a full outer orbit?

Berilium, Magnesium, Calcium, Strontium, Barium and Radium

What information does the atomic number give on the periodic table?

The atomic number on the periodic table corresponds to the number of protons in an atom's nucleus. It uniquely identifies each element since no two elements have the same number of protons. Elements are arranged on the periodic table based on their atomic number.
