Henry VIII was an absolute monarch, who clearly took the position that by definition he could not commit an illegal act because his will was the law.

Most famously, Henry VIII dealt badly with several of his wives, two of whom he had beheaded.

Controversially, he separated the Church of England from the Church of Rome in order to have his first marriage annulled and marry again. This act was against the laws of the Church of Rome.

He declared himself supreme head of the Church, which clearly was against the Church law. He also interfered in Church practices without reason.

He confiscated property of the Church and monasteries and distributed it to his friends or used it for his own profit.

He had people he thought were opposed to him tortured and executed on grounds that were at least questionable. He made policies and had laws that made questioning certain of his actions treason and punishable by death.

He was excessive in his spending money, which was not illegal, perhaps, but was certainly reckless. He acquired or built 43 palaces.

He debased the currency in order to stretch his resources, and thereby effectively cheated the people of his country for his own greed.

It should be pointed out that these are just a few of the bad or questionable things he did. He did other many other things, some bad, and many good, and was a popular king.

King Henry VIII married Anne Boleyn without the Catholic Church annulling his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. According to the Catholic Church, Henry's relationship with Anne was adultery, not marriage.
