I assume you mean Mallet. A Mallet is a type of Hammer from the Latin Malus. The term is also applied to an articulated steam locomotive with two or more powered sets of drive wheels like the Y-2B (2-8-8-2) or the celebrated Big Boy (4-8-8-4) it should be correctly pronounced as (Mahl-lay) in the French but hey it's the USA and Mallet is the proper usage.
A mallet has a large head and is used to bang on large objects. A hammer has a small head and it used to bang on nails.

With a piano, the hammers strike the strings as a mallet would strike a marimba or drum. The piano is considered a percussion instrument.
Mallet-based instruments. For example, Spoon Tarangs, Jal Tarangs, etc.
Maracas starts with m. a mandolin
All percussion instruments are played by either hitting them with something or crashing them together. Since the Vibraphone is hit with a mallet to produce sound, then it would be considered a percussion instrument.
Most percussion instruments are struck. This can be done with a hand, stick, mallet, or other part of the instrument.
Musicians playing the 'vibraphones' or 'vibes' can choose to play "two-mallet style" which is to say: one mallet (stick) per hand, or "four-mallet style" which is two mallets (sticks) per hand. Some players even play with three mallets (one in one hand and two in the other.)
The piano can belong to two different instrument families, this is due to the way the sound is produced. It can be considered a percussion instrument because it uses a mallet to hit a string to produce the sound. On the other hand, it can be considered a string instrument because a vibrating string is what actually produces the sound.
