In all reality the ancient Romans had no real reasons for such large numbers in fact the original Roman numeral system had only five symbols in it which were I V X L and C. For 500 it once was I) and for 1000 it once was (I) later changed to D and M respectively.

But if needed the Roman numeral system is capable of such large numbers by means of brackets and superscripts as follows:-

(M)(M) which means 1000*1000*1000*1000 = 1,000,000,000,000 or as 1.0*1012 in scientific notation
