What does address 192.1.6.255 signify?

In a 24 bit subnet (subnet mask = 255.255.255.0), the address 192.1.6.255 is the broadcast address for the subnet 192.1.6.0/24.

What factors determine how much physical memory an 80286 can address?

An 80286 has a 24 bit address bus. As such, it can address 224, or 16,777,216, or 16 MB of memory.

Address bus width?

Varies from machine to machine:many early machines had address busses only 12 to 18 bits wideearly microprocessors has address busses 10 to 14 bits wide16 bit address busses were common on microprocessors in the early 1980sthe 8086 had a 20 bit address bus and the 68000 a 24 bit address busmost modern computers have 32 bit address busses with high-end ones having as many as 64 bit address busses

Which processor had a 32-bit internal bus and a 16-bit external bus?

Which processor has a 32-bit Data Bus and a 24-bit Address Bus?

What is 31-bit addressing on a mainframe?

31 bit addressing is a way of accessing the virtual memory. Based on the memory available the bit in the address can change. Or viceversa. for 31 bit the memory available is gb and for 24 bit its 16mb.

Is 24 bit block a better addressing scheme in computer networking than a 16 bit block?

There is nothing inherently "better" about the 24-bit block address space. If by "better" you mean "able to contain more addresses," then yes. 24-, 20-, and 16-bit network ranges are also known as class A, B, and C, respectively, and refer to ranges of IP addresses. Every device that directly accesses the internet has a unique IP address. IP addresses are commonly represented as a set of four numbers (called "octets") separated by periods, e.g. "145.94.112.18". Each of the numbers can be in the range of 0-255, and some sets of numbers have special meanings. The range of IP addresses is divided up into three classes based on the first octet. If the first octet is from 0-127 it's class A, 128-191 is class B, and 192-223 is class C. The octets of an IP address are divided up into a network portion and a host portion depending on what class it is. In class A addresses, the first octet is the network portion and the remaining three are the host portion. For class B, it's two-and-two, and for class C the first three are network and the remaining one is host. What does this network/host division mean? Generally, large entities (such as a company) are assigned a single network block of IP addresses. For instance, IBM is in control of the 9.0.0.0 network block. This is a class A address, meaning that the network portion is 9 and the rest is the host portion. IBM can divide this space up (using a technique called subnetting) any way it sees fit. Every computer within IBM would have a different ip in the 9 network, e.g. 9.4.109.10, 9.212.34.88. A class A (or 24-bit) block address has three octets it can use to create different IP addresses, such as "9.0-255.0-255.0-255". A class C (or 16-bit) block address has only one octet it can use to create different IP addresses, such as "192.168.1.0-255". You can clearly see that a class C block address contains less potential addresses than a class A or B block address. This doesn't make class C addresses any worse than class A ones, though. A small business (or a home network) doesn't need a million different IP addresses, so a 16-bit block address is perfect for them and if they had a class A or B all those numbers would be wasted.

A microprocessor has 24 parallel address lines How many memory locations can the processor address?

32 bit address line can access 4GB of memory. As 2^10 -> 1KB; 2^20 -> 2MB; 2^30 -> 1GB and so on.... 32 bit gives (2^30) * (2^2) = 1GB * 4 = 4GB;

How many memory locations be addressed by a microprocessor with 14 address lines?

A microprocessor that uses 24 bit addressing, such as the Intel 80286, can address 224 or 16,777,216 memory locations. The IBM MainFrame, 360/44 or any modern version running in AMODE=24 also has the same capacity.

How much memory did the IBM's ramac have?

The IBM 305 RAMAC computer was the first computer to include a disk drive named the IBM 350 Disk File. The 350 Disk File consisted of a stack of fifty 24" discs. The capacity of the entire disk file was 5 million 7-bit characters, which works out to about 4.4 MB in modern parlance.

What is RFC 1918?

RFC 1918 is Address Allocation for Private Internets The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the following three blocks of the IP address space for private internets: 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix) 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix) 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix) We will refer to the first block as "24-bit block", the second as "20-bit block", and to the third as "16-bit" block. Note that (in pre-CIDR notation) the first block is nothing but a single class A network number, while the second block is a set of 16 contiguous class B network numbers, and third block is a set of 256 contiguous class C network numbers.
