PC5300 memory, is one of the newest types of memory. Thus being DDR II. The slot in the middle, is slightly different to that of DDR ram. This is the easiest way of telling the two apart.

Hope this helps

Pentium 4 2ghz 800mhz run in dell demension 2400?

I don't think it will. The demension 2400's board was designed to only run at 533mhz fsb max. It might be able to scale it down to 533mhz but you wouldn't get all of the performance. Only the P4's that run at 533mhz fsb will work in it as far as I know (I have one). The max clock speed for a P4 at 533mhz fsb that I know of is 3.06 GhZ

Can you use pc6400 memory instead of pc5300?

Yes, it will just run at the max speed that the motherboard supports. So if the motherboard specifies pc5300, you're going to be running the pc6400 memory which is faster than the 5300 at a lower speed. But it will work just as well as the pc5300. [thumbsuck] Might even run a bit cooler at the slower clockspeed due to higher quality etching for the pc6400 and or larger chip die sizes. [/thumbsuck]

I have 512MB DDR2 533MHz RAM in my laptop and I want to put a 1GB DDR2 533MHz stick in the second RAM slot. I remember old computers not allowing this mixing of capacities. Should it work?

Yes it should (the clue is that if you motherboard is coping with just one stick then you clearly don't need matched pairs)
