People who work and live in Antarctica -- thanks to the governments that support their efforts in pursuit of science -- do so on as Spartan a level as possible while protecting them in the most extreme area on earth.

Workers sleep in bunk rooms, eat in cafeterias, and work six days a week from about 7:30A to about 5:30P, with regular breaks.

It's a decent standard of working, but one would not call it a 'standard of living' except to say that people are sheltered, fed and kept warm.
