She is the goddess of love, especially the carnal sexual love, and she is often thought to be very beautiful. However her personality depends on which literary source you examine, e.g in Hippolytus she is portrayed quite anthropomorphically as she plots the distruction of Hippolytus simply because he calls her the 'foulest of divinities'. Therefore in this case one could argue that she is proud and vengeful. In Homer's Odyssey, on Phaeacia she is caught cheating on her husband with the God of War, Ares, so here she is lustful, although this is simply the tale the bard tells so it could be saying more about the kind of people the Phaeacians are rather than Aphrodite herself. In the Illiad she is thought to be loving as she rescues her son Aeneas in the battle of Troy, although also weak because she is wounded by the spear of a mortal. Ultimately her personality differs depending on the source and the authors choice to depict her as each saw fit.
Aphrodite was goddess of love and beauty. she was knowen to be very beautiful but quite vain.
