"Asa's Prayer" comes from The Holy Bible, specifically, II Chronicles 14:11. Asa is King Asa of Judah, the son and successor of King Abijah. It is widely believed that at the time King Asa took the thone he was a young boy, around the age of 10. The first ten years of his reign was very peaceful and during this time he, as King, led Judah to a time of refocusing on The One True God and removing all other false gods and idols. God blessed Judah for this. Zerah the Ethiopian came to wage war with Judah with at least 1,000,000 men. King Asa had less than 600,000. King Asa lifted a prayer to God for the Kingdom of Judah in verse 11 which reads, "And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee." This prayer can be broken down to express King Asa's attitude, understanding and dependence upon God. One of the simplest analysis of Asa's prayer is a four part focus on: # Asa Cried Unto God - "Crying Out to God" shows a sense of sincerity and ernest desire for God to hear him. This is how we need to pray, with all sincerity. # His God - Many people "cry out" to God in prayer but one important difference is that Asa cried out to HIS God. Asa had a personal relationship with God, his life showed evidence of that (verse 2). Many people today unfortunately cry out to a God they; 1) know nothing about, 2) Don't care to know unless they are in need, 3) treat like a genie in a lamp, and 4) refuse to follow and obey Even if they DID know Him. # "Help Us" - Asa prayed that GOD would provide the solution. People today go to God with the solution to a problem then wonder why God didn't answer that prayer. If we simply go to God with the problem and if we're asking for His help, we should trust in His solution. Pray the Problem! # We rest in thee - This is one of the most important parts of Asa's prayer. King Asa sought God in prayer and after making his petition to God, King Asa trusted God to act. The results are clear in verse 12. Shuold we follow these four steps in prayer to God as King Asa prayed, we too can trust God for a solution to the battles we face. ~Pastor John~
