Australia's copyright law is similar to that of other signatories to the Berne convention. The 1968 Act protects original creative works for the life of the author plus 50 years for works prior to 1 January 2005, and for the life of the author plus 70 years for works 1 January 2005 to present.

There is no formal registration system in Australia.
