'Advance Australia Fair' is the national anthem of Australia. A revised version of a late nineteenth century patriotic song, it was officially declared the national anthem on 19 April 1984.

However, there is a popular song, 'Waltzing Matilda' which is regarded by many as the "unofficial" national anthem of Australia.

Advance Australia Fair is the official Anthem. God Save the Queen (or King) which is a royal anthem played in the presence of or memory of a Soverign and finally the best known and loved of them all, the unofficial Aussie Anthem, Waltzing Matilda.

Its music and lyrics were written by 'Amicus', a pseudonym used by Scottish-born composer, Peter Dodds McCormick in the 1870s; it was first performed in Sydney at a Scottish function in November 1878, and became Australia's national anthem on April 19, 1984.

"God save the King/Queen" was the official anthem of Australia when it was under British rule, and remains the "royal" anthem to this days. "Advance Australia Fair" is now the official national anthem of Australia. Created by the Scottish–born composer, Peter Dodds McCormick, the song was first performed in 1878, but did not gain its status as the official anthem until 1984. Until then, the song was sung in Australia as a patriotic song. "Waltzing Matilda" is Australia's most widely known bush Ballad, and has been referred to as "the unofficial national anthem of Australia".
