Oliver Twist (1838) is Charles Dickens' second novel...The Pickwick Papers (1837) being his first.

While some readers consider Sketches by Boz (1836) to be his first novel, this isn't the case. Sketches is in fact a collection of 56 sketches (or short stories) that Dickens originally published individually in various magazines and periodicals between 1833 and 1836.
