Cheryl Cole knew she wanted to perform from a very young age. She originally planned to be a dancer, and began performing at recitals when she was in elementary school. She was also interested in modeling, and won several competitions. After she had dropped out of school at age 16, she was working as a waitress but still hoping to find a niche as a performer when she auditioned for the British reality TV show "Popstars: The Rivals" in 2002 at age 19. Singing turned out to be a good vehicle for her, and it led her to join a girl group called "Girls Aloud." The group has been extremely successful, and Cole seems happy as a singer/songwriter and TV performer.
